The Cathedral of St John the Divine
1047 Amsterdam Ave, New York, NY 10025
We speak our vows in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, America's largest cathedral, and a house of prayer chartered for all people.
For 134 years, these walls have held the sacred and the social: Duke Ellington’s sacred jazz, Aretha’s final public concert, and the memorials of Baldwin, Morrison, Ailey, Ashe, and so many more.
More than a monument, the Cathedral remains a living institution dedicated to social justice, ecumenical dialogue, and serving as what its founders called "a center of intellectual light".
We will be married by The Very Reverend Winnie Varghese, the Cathedral's 12th Dean, and both the first woman and the first person of color, to serve in that role. Dean Varghese is a national Faith Leader whose vision continues the Cathedral's commitment to justice, beauty, and radical welcome.
We invite you to arrive beginning at 1 pm.
The ceremony will begin promptly at 1:30 pm, followed by a brief receiving moment on the Cathedral steps.
By 3 pm, you’ll be on your way to rest, refresh, and prepare for the evening ahead.
Dress is daytime formal.

Within its columbarium rest Michael’s mother, Leith Mullings, and his stepfather, Manning Marable, placing our union inside the continuum of Black intellectual and artistic life.
